Embassy Headquarters are located inside the oldest nucleus of the city: Icheri Sheher (called the Old City or The Inner City to the West) an ancient walled city, built on a site inhabited since the time of Paleolithic, a rare example of Zoroastrian, Sassanian, Arabic, Persian, Shirvani, Ottoman and Russian architectural and cultural influences.

Mighty walls, system of trenches and defensive towers that surround the Old City, dating from the Twelfth Century, are almost entirely preserved. All inside the old core of the city rises the majestic "Maiden Tower" (Giz Galasy), built on the foundations of a defensive structure dating from the VII-VI sec. B.C. On the back of the Embassy it is possible to admire the Azerbaijani architectural treasure, "Shirvanshahs" Palace, dating from the Fifteenth Century.

Old City or The Inner City

 



The Embassy is reachable by subway, in fact Baku Soviet metro station is less than a hundred meters from the Embassy. Baku Soviet is also the terminus of several bus lines. The same stop on the subway may be given to taxi drivers if they are not able to reach the Embassy.
